My Grateful Heart

Sunday morning I was sitting out on my verandah ….

… having a coffee and I couldn’t stop thinking about an experience I had on Thursday in the boutique. This experience is exactly the reason why I do what I do.

Last Thursday a client I hadn’t seen for awhile (and wondered why) walked into the boutique. Immediately I could tell she had been through something by the beautiful coloured scarf that lit up her face, wrapped neatly around her hair.

She didn’t actually say “Here I am, I have had breast cancer”. “I have been through a horrific ordeal.”

All she said was I need some new outfits to treat myself because “my shape has changed” as she ran her hands down her chest.

As I showed her different tops in the boutique, and we discussed her favourite colours and styles she loved, she then proceeded to tell me she had just finished her last treatment of chemotherapy. She wanted to treat herself before she started ray treatment.

I don’t know what the words are to explain when someone tells you something like that. Is it sadness or empathy. I just wanted to find this lady something nice, because she deserved it.

I gave her my time. I wanted to find something for her that would make her happy and represent her new start. Because that feeling when you have something new and something that is yours is indescribable.

I just kept picking things up as we walked around the boutique showing her different styles and new colours. I asked her about her style, what she liked, what length sleeve, what shaped top…. what reflected her.

She walked out of the boutique with two new outfits that truly made her happy. Two new tops and two new pairs of pants.

I turned to Caity (my beautiful shop assistant) at the counter and all I could say was “wow”.

What this lady had been through, she still had the most beautiful personality. Bubbly and like nothing had changed for her. And even though she had experienced something life changing, she still remained that wonderful, pleasant person I know.

That afternoon, the lady came back into the store and handed me a little square box of ferrero rochers.

“I want to give you these because I enjoyed my shopping experience with you so much. Thank you!”

I had tears in my eyes. Because she was the one that had been through this experience and she was buying ME chocolates.

Because she had enjoyed her experience with us so much that morning.

I hugged her, and then she was gone.

My grateful heart. If only she knew the experience she gave to me and the emotion she brought to the boutique.

We would love to share our experiences with you. If you would like this to, please sign up to our VIP List to receive our newsletter. You will also go into the draw to WIN a $40 gift voucher from Willow & Fli! There is one drawn every month!!!

Mother's Day

Being A Mother

With Mother's Day almost here, I wanted to share with you a little from my own personal experience in hope that you find inspiration for your own Mother's Day celebrations!

Mother's Day for me, is honouring that special person who gave up everything to raise me, and it wasn't until I had my own children that I realised how much I took for granted throughout my childhood - mostly my parents.

When I became a Mother, I felt and experienced all that it takes to be someone's Mum. The incredible love and those warm, fuzzy feelings when they smiled at me, their dependency on me and knowing that they totally need and rely on me, the sleep deprivation, tantrums, fun, tears and happiness beyond words. It made me appreciate my own Mother and how hard it was for her too.

Mother's Day originated in 1914 and was created to honour the "person who has done more for you than anyone in the world" by Anna Jarvis. Her intention was to hold a day where people could show appreciation and honour to their Mother's all around the world through expression of love and gratitude. To pause for a day to recognise the incredible care and responsibility shown by being a Mother.

Now when I look at my mum, I know she wants to talk to me and kiss me and be there for me, but, unfortunately she can't. As much as this saddens me, the lessons and life experiences that she taught me, has given me the courage and strength throughout my life to never take any day for granted and to appreciate all that I have. Everyday I am in awe of the amazing person that she is, and even though her memories have faded, she still teaches me incredible lessons that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Each Mother's Day I take the time to recognise what my Mother has done and given for me, and I appreciate the person she made me so I can be there for my own children and grandchildren, the same as she is there for me.

From my family to yours, I hope you celebrate this Mother's Day with those who love and honour you and take the day to appreciate that special Mum in your life who gave everything for you!
